ABOUT MILLE KALSMOSE

MILLE KALSMOSE

The work of Mille Kalsmose evolves around qualified art that in investigatory and experimental ways problematies the borderlines between work and artist, and in a wider sense between work and life, between art and everyday culture; not with the aim to erase these borders, but to bring them to a test, whilst consciously investigating them.

The works of Kalsmose is based on classical stories about the family-concept, and "Happiness" related to the stereotype illusions hereof created via the media and the general society. In Her work she seeks to decode the story of what it means to be part of a family, to be someone's daughter or mother. Accordingly, her artwork becomes an almost anthropological survey of the romantic family-dream, where she applies the nuclear family as a readymade. It is a piece of work that tells the story of a reality that amalgamates with the illusion of the person to which she tries to construct a new reality, via the wishful image.Through actual actions in her own life she investigates the possibilities and potentials of conscious symbolic actions and thereby showing new ways to reinvent ourselves.

Mille Kalsmose has been exhibited nationally in juried exhibitions and solo shows.
Internationally she has exhibited in places such as Chelsea Art Museum in New York and ITAMI, Museum for arts And Craft in Hygo and been featured in publications and TV-shows.

For the moment she is working with Spanish art photographer Alberto Garcia-Alix on a photoinstallation and with film director Suvi Andrea Helminen on a short mowie, with a grant from the Danish Film Directors Committee.
